There are four underlying statements that drive the School Development Plan compiled by the Headteacher, and approved by the LGC.
The four statements are:
- Mission Statement
- The Values of the School
- The Vision
- The Ethos Statement
The Mission Statement of the School
Empowering future generations to thrive in tomorrow’s world.
The Values of the School
We believe that every school has a set of values that permeate that place of learning.
That set of values is a glue that binds everything together.
At Epsom and Ewell High School our success relies upon everyone buying in to the importance of positive relationships, to have a commitment to treat one another with respect, and to have high expectations of both ourselves and others.
By growing those positive relationships, we can achieve more as a team than as individuals.
To this end we have three core values:
Kindness – By being kind to one another we can truly champion equality, diversity and inclusion.
Self Esteem – We are a school that encourages people to embrace their true selves and share their uniqueness with the world.
Embracing Change – We believe change can be a positive opportunity for creating a better self, school, and society.
The Vision of the School
Our vision is to prepare our students for the present and for the future, by encouraging them to be innovative in their attitude to life.
We want our school to be at the heart of the community, to be part of the glue that binds it together, and makes it better.
Our purpose is to nurture the talents of each and every student in our care, to help them to be resilient in the face of adversity, to try and not be afraid of failure.
We want to provide a supportive, inclusive and focused learning community in order to empower future generations to thrive in tomorrow’s world.
The Ethos of the School
At Epsom and Ewell High School, we have a strong set of beliefs that guide everything we do. We value kindness and teamwork, and we make sure that everyone feels included. We appreciate the richness of our diverse community and understand how valuable it is. Every day, we create an environment where everyone has a sense of purpose and feels empowered to have a positive attitude.
We believe that each person has unlimited potential and we help them succeed as part of our community. We are dedicated to helping our students and staff reach their full potential. Together, we inspire each other and create an atmosphere that encourages passion and growth. We are committed to creating endless opportunities for the future. At Epsom and Ewell High School, our beliefs shape our community and encourage individuals to aim high.
British Values at Epsom & Ewell High School
The Department for Education state that there is a need “to create and enforce a clear and rigorous expectation on all schools to promote the fundamental British values of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty and mutual respect and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs.”
The government set out its definition of British values in the 2011 Prevent Strategy and these values were reiterated by the Prime Minister in 2014. The Government emphasizes that schools are required to ensure that key ‘British Values’ are taught in all UK schools.
Schools, through their curriculum, are legally bound to actively promote the fundamental British values:
- Democracy – Respect for democracy and support for participation in the democratic process
- The rule of law – respect for the basis on which the law is made and applies in England
- Individual liberty – support and respect for the liberties of all within the law
- Mutual respect – respect for all
- Tolerance of those of different faiths and beliefs – tolerance of different faiths and religious and other beliefs
At Epsom & Ewell High School these values are reinforced regularly and are taught through our broad, balanced and enriched curriculum.
